Logistics 4.0

Logistics 4.0

Logistics 4.0 refers to the most modern logistics which includes interconnection, digitalization and cloud computing. A logistics company, therefore, is no longer limited, as it once was, to mere transport, but has the task of coordinating, from a logistical point of view, the various functions and companies involved, along the entire distribution chain. .

Meaning
The term “logistics 4.0” was born in reference to the term “industry 4.0”, used for the first time in 2011 at the IAA International Industrial Vehicle Show in Hanover. We are therefore dealing with the fourth industrial revolution. The first dates back to the invention of the steam engine; the second to the use of electricity and the introduction of the assembly line. The third industrial revolution, also known as the digital revolution, introduces the automation of production and the use of electronics, such as programmable logic control.

Logistics 4.0 continues this trend, including modern information and communication technologies. Intelligent and digitally interconnected systems ensure direct communication between people, machines, plants, logistics and products. By integrating logistics into the distribution chain as soon as possible, it is possible to optimize just-in-time production. At the same time, transport companies are striving for greater safety in transport planning, even better utilization of fleets and reduced waiting times at places of loading and unloading goods.
