LTL (Less Than Truckload)

LTL (Less Than Truckload)

The term LTL (Less Than Truckload) refers to road transport under partial load. For a truck with a partial load, additional partial loads are usually sought to ensure that transportation is convenient. An alternative to looking for additional partial loads is groupage (also called groupage).

In theory, multiple partial loads could be more profitable for the hauler than a single full load of the same weight and volume. The problem is that waiting periods can elapse between the various loading and unloading places, which can cause a considerable slowdown in transport times. Furthermore, in the case of particularly urgent fixed deadlines, it may happen that the vehicle continues its journey only with a partial load.

The partial load of a container is called LCL (Less than Container Load).
